How to make NAAN bread:

It is super easy to make NAAN bread. Just follow the steps:

  1. Activate the yeast – mix the yeast with warm water and sugar. Set aside for 5 minutes to foam.
  2. Make the dough – combine all dry ingredients (flour, sugar and salt) in the bowl of the standing mixer, fitted with the dough hook. Turn the mixer on and add the yeast, butter, milk, and egg. Or make the dough using your hands. Knead until a nice, soft dough ball forms. If the dough sticks on your hands, add some more flour.
  3. Proofing – cover the bowl with film and set aside on a warm place to double its size. It will take 1-2 hours, depending on the room temperature.
  4. Cut the dough into 12 balls and arrange them in a slightly floured tray. Cover with kitchen towel and let them rest for 15-30 minutes.
  5. Roll-out NAAN breads. Start by putting the ball on a lightly floured surface, press it with your hand and roll 16 cm in diameter disk, 3-4 mm thick.
  6. Cook NAAN bread. You need a cast iron skillet. Slightly butter with just ½ tsp sunflower oil in the skillet and spread on the bottom with a kitchen paper; heat well and place the NAAN. Leave to cook for 1 minute, without touching. Then flip and cook for 45 seconds to 1 minute on the other side.
  7. Brush with butter. You can use garlic flavored butter. Finish by sprinkling over some poppy – seeds if you like.
