World Food Day was established in 1979 to raise awareness of hunger and encourage society to support efforts to eradicate world hunger. Today, 150 support it!
Facts:
- The world produces enough food to feed everyone, but about 800,000,000 people suffer from hunger. This is one in nine people. 60% of them are women.
- About 80% of the world’s poorest live in rural areas. Most of them depend on agriculture.
- Hunger kills more people each year than people with malaria, tuberculosis and
- About 45% of infant deaths are related to malnutrition.
- The cost of malnutrition in the global economy is the equivalent of $ 3,500,000,000,000 a year.
- 1,900,000,000 people – more than a quarter of the world’s population – are overweight.
- One third of the world’s food is discarded.
- Eliminating hunger is a global endeavor. Reducing food waste in households is something anyone can do.
Let’s start today. Let’s try to eat reasonably and not throw away food at least today! Let’s at least give food to some starving people today!
